creating a nature-positive world together

Dutjahn

The Aboriginal word for 'Sandalwood' in the Martu and Wongi language.

It is a sacred tree that has been revered for thousands of years

a time-honoured oil, enriched by the traditional lands of Australia

Dutjahn Sandalwood Oils was created to honour this legacy.

As an equal partnership between Traditional Custodians of wild Dutjahn and growers of Australian sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) in plantation, we fuse these supply chains to create unique essential oils.

Slow-distilled by provenance and sourced with care, our oils are created to ensure people and nature can thrive for generations to come.

ethical. to the core.

  • 50% Indigenous-owned and led.

  • Aboriginal people benefit through profit-share, wood sales and royalties for community projects.

  • Indigenous custodianship of wild sandalwood protects threatened cultural practices and preserves biodiverse desert ecosystems.

  • Cultivated trees regenerate devitalised farmlands where they grow - regenerating soils, sequestering carbon and promoting fauna.

  • Transparent and ethical supply chains.

a transformational
nature-positive model

As Custodians of Dutjahn, Aboriginal people are leading the creation of a fairer sourcing system that gives life to the people, animals and lands connected to sandalwood - not just today, but for generations to come.

We were humbled to win the United Nations Equator Prize for this work to address inequality, stem biodiversity loss and take climate action.

from little things, big things grow

Like nature we are constantly adapting, working to improve our quality, ethics and sustainability to honour this tree and the lands and people connected to it. Last year we attained the first UEBT Verified Responsibly-Sourced Sandalwood oil, and this year achieved Ecovadis Platinum.

creating brighter futures together

When you use Dutjahn oil, you contribute to the Dutjahn Foundation - an independent Aboriginal-led not for profit supporting Aboriginal communities on sandalwood lands.

Your support helps communities to build brighter futures for young Martu - to reimagine their ancient culture and care for their rich, biodiverse country.
